Can Weiner be forcibly removed from his position?

everyone seems to talk about his resignation as the solution to him being put out of office, as if to say he would otherwise still be in position. But couldn't he just be fired or terminated in order to oust him if it was desired and there was a legitimate reason? It's just like any other political figure such as Nixon who would resign or be put out of office in the event of a scandal.
