Do we seriously need to stop the 2 party system and have everyone run as an independent?

If you want an Independent to have a serious chance at winning the presidency, there needs to be a system that allows for run-off for federal elections if no one gets a majority of the vote. Currently, a third party only hurts the major party it is philosophically closest too, allowing the least desirable candidate to squeak through.
